Week in the Life- Sunday, February 3, 2013

7am: Today started like any normal Sunday.  Joe is always first in the shower while I get Lily up and going with her morning reading time.  Then after he is ready, Joe then helps get Lily dressed and fed while I get ready.  It typically is a team effort, but as a family, it is a rhythm that works for us.

7:25am: This morning, Lily had her usual reading time and apparently she thought it lasted too long because she had pitched everything over the side which is usually our sign from her that she has grown tired of waiting for us.  This is what I saw when I walked in the door to Lily's room...

...upon further inspection, she had apparently gotten VERY bored (or maybe not so bored!) because this was the first time she had done this!  Luckily for us, everything was still on, just unfastened...but I have a feeling that I may not be so lucky in the days and weeks to come...  Needless to say, she was very proud of herself and could not wait to show me what she had done.  Cute, but not really.

7:45am:  Commonly on Sundays, Lily loves to run around upstairs (avoiding getting dressed, eating breakfast) and visit me while I'm trying to get ready.  Something that usually works to "contain" her long enough to get dressed is to play on our bed while listening to her favorite tunes.  She especially ADORES the Sesame Street Pandora music channel these days.

....it also goes without saying that she is a huge fan of her Daddy...

...of course, no getting ready time is complete without a giant game of chase... one of her favorite places to race to and hide is in our closet behind the hanging clothes.  She has a little nook in there and she loves to hide and then pop her head out and say, "Peek a boo!"  It is so cute and she is shrieking with joy and giggles the entire time which makes it even better.

Peek a boo!
(Sorry about the blurry photos, everything is action shots these days!)
8:25am: Lily eats breakfast and is seeming less than enthused that I am taking lots of photos of her.  (She is not a fan of my Week in the Life projects)

9am: Church -

This is Lily's classroom.  She loves going and easily separates to go play with her friends.  This makes going to church enjoyable for the whole family knowing she is having so much fun.

Grown up church...

Today was a really special day at church for us.  Earlier in the week, we had been asked to share Luke's story with everyone.  We were a tad overwhelmed emotionally, but felt like it was a good time to share.  Our interview lasted 2.5 hours on the previous Wednesday evening and we watched the final 13 minute cut for the first time along with everyone else in church today.  It was a whirlwind experience, but one we felt a great deal of peace about in the end.  It is also rather crazy to think that when I started this Week in the Life series for our family I had no idea we would be sharing our story less than a week later! Crazy how God works and moves quickly like that sometimes....

It was awkward to snap this photo of us up on the big screen because we were both very emotional while watching it, but I absolutely wanted to capture this moment both for our family and for this project....

If you want to see the video podcast of the service, you can watch it here

...10:30am: After church we spent some time catching up with some dear friends who were in town from Stillwater, Oklahoma and Lily loved practicing her jumping with their kiddos.  The giggles while this was happening were so good for my heavy heart post service.

11am: Our family tradition is to go out for brunch or get carry out from a favorite brunch spot after church.  This is Lily and I waiting in the car while Joe was inside First Watch getting our order.  I moved to the back seat to keep Lily company since it was going to be about a 15 minute wait...  I also just wanted to hang out with my girl...she is the BEST!

...we read some books....

...took off our shoes...(I love these tights on her!)

11:45am - Back home and now with a full belly, we made a little pit stop in the kitchen on our way up to naptime...

12:45pm:  With naptime in full swing, Joe was kind enough to let me go and have some "me" time while he stayed home and waited for Lily to wake up.  It had literally been weeks since I had taken a break for myself to refill my cup.  I was excited- and I think everyone around me was excited that I was finally going to take a break because when I do, I'm much, much nicer and more fun to be around!

I decided to go and spend some time at Barnes and Nobel.  I could not get my internet to work there, so I was "forced" to spend a few hours reading some of my favorite shelter oriented magazines.  I swear, the time flew by and I could feel my inner cup slowly being re-filled as my heart was inspired...

...I get lost in scenes like these....

...inspired by ideas like this one... yum.

...at some point in my afternoon away, I received this texted photo of what was going on at home....too much cuteness.  It's the strangest thing, I LOVE my away/alone time, but sometimes when I am away, I miss what is going on at home and I want to rush back so as not to miss anything! Today was no exception, but I forced myself not to rush home.  Plus it's really good for Lily and Daddy to have their time together too...

After Barnes and Nobel, I spent some time wandering in a new Anthropologie store that opened nearby.  That place, (although super expensive!) is so pretty to look at and admire....It was a lot of fun to just anonymously wander without worry of pretty things getting grabbed or broken by sweet little hands.

3:30pm:  When I returned home, I found these two working on the master plan for Lily's new bedroom  mural.  It melts my heart to see these two hanging out having a great time together...

...our collection of paint samples for Lily's mural...

...we will do a whole post on her new room when it is finished, but here is one of the 'before' shots....

4:15pm: This is the part of the day where my documentation becomes less than stellar.  During this time, Joe and Lily played in the playroom while I made an appetizer for the Super Bowl party we were going to be attending this evening.  Nana and Papa came over to play with Lily and babysit while we went to our friend's anual party...

5:45pm: At our friend, Dave's anual Super Bowl party.  We counted up while we were there, and figured that we had been getting together for over ten years to watch the big game.  It is always a good time.

...as I mentioned, my documentation at this point in the day leaves a lot to be desired, but there were great friends, yummy appetizers, cold beverages, Minsky's pizza and the best pie in town for dessert.  So much fun!  We were cheering for the 49ers, so even though the game did not go our way, it was at least an exciting one!

This game was especially memorable because there was a huge power outage just after half time and so we switched channels for a little bit and started watching some Alaska reality series....(hooray for cable tv at Dave's!)

10:30pm- Home again.  Lily did great for Nana and Papa.  We watched the special showing of Elementary on TV after the Super Bowl and called it a night.  (We love that show)!  Happy Sunday everyone!

  1. What a touching video, Sarah. Your journey continues to be an inspiration. Luke's life still impacts me today, as I know it does for many others. He will never be forgotten.
